Avondale
Close to the north branch of the Chicago River, the community of Avondale is located on the Northwest Side of the city. Rated as both a very walkable and bikeable part of Chicago, Avondale is also home to good public transportation, which provides all using it with smooth accessibility to the rest of the city. Initially brimming with factories and other industries in the twentieth century, Avondale drew in migrants from Europe, Latin America, and other parts of the world over the years. Now, it is defined by three distinct neighborhoods Polish Village, Belmont Gardens, and Kosciuszcko (Koz) Park all of which have their own unique history and personality. Make your way down Milwaukee Avenue and stock up on sausages and baked goods, let loose during one of the neighborhoods several festivals with other residents, and even enjoy a visit from the citys mobile zoo on occasion! Last, but definitely not least, count yourself lucky to live in a neighborhood memorialized by the radical and innovative Chicago photographer, Vivian Maier.
